What Thermistor Fault indicates

Monogram built-ins use several thermistors so the control knows the fresh-food and freezer cabinet temperatures, the evaporator coil temperature for defrost, and ambient conditions. The board compares these readings; if a sensor goes open or shorted, or two sensors disagree by more than an allowed margin, it flags a thermistor fault and reverts to a default run pattern that rarely holds the right temperature.

Symptoms you may notice

• Cabinet runs too warm or, less often, freezes food because the control is mis-reading temperature
• Temperature display reads obviously wrong or jumps around
• Compressor cycles oddly, too short or too long
• Defrost cycles too frequently or not enough
• Fault clears briefly after a power cycle then returns

What causes Thermistor Fault

Thermistors degrade with age and read out of spec, connector pins corrode or back out, and wiring can chafe where it routes through the cabinet. Moisture intrusion at a sensor body or a pinched harness during a past service can also cause a shorted or unstable reading.
