Clean the Condenser Coils

Sub-Zero condenser coils are typically behind the front grille at the top of the unit. Dust and pet hair accumulate there and insulate the coils, forcing the compressor to run longer and hotter. Vacuum and brush the coils every 6 to 12 months, more often in homes with pets. This is the highest-impact maintenance step and directly affects cooling performance and energy use.

Replace Filters on Schedule

If your model has a water dispenser or ice maker, replace the water filter about every 6 to 12 months or when the indicator prompts, using the correct Sub-Zero cartridge. Many units also have an air purification cartridge that should be replaced roughly once a year to control odors. Mark a calendar reminder so filters do not lapse, which affects water quality and freshness.

Check Gaskets, Leveling, and Airflow

Inspect the door gaskets periodically; wipe them clean and confirm they are flexible and seal fully so cold air does not escape. A simple test is closing the door on a slip of paper, it should hold with slight resistance. Verify the unit is level, tilted very slightly back, so doors self-close and drain water flows correctly.
